Communication: Please check your child’s “Take-Home Folder”
every night. I will send home graded
work, notes from me, and upcoming events.
I will also try to update my website weekly, usually on Fridays. I will send home a monthly newsletter on to
give you some insight on what we are doing at school. Communication is the key to a successful
year.
I love to give positive feedback to you, and celebrate your child’s achievements. Occasionally, when I see exemplary behavior, attitude, or study habits, I will send home a “positive postcard”. Celebrate with your child the hard work they are putting in at school! I will also send occasional positive text messages. If you are interested, please let me know. There is a note about this in the folder from Meet the Teacher, too.
Please feel free to contact me at school by email, phone, or sending a note. Even though the school schedule is busy, I will return messages as quickly as I can, sometimes this may not be until the end of the day. If you have a transportation change or an urgent issue, please call the school office and leave a message with the one of the secretaries; they will be sure I get the information quickly.
Transportation: If your child’s transportation needs to be changed either for the day, OR permanently, I MUST HAVE A NOTE OR YOUR VERBAL PERMISSION. Please send a note the day before or the morning of. Because I am with the students most of the day, I am not always able to check my voice mail or email during the day. Therefore, call the office the day of, and they will be sure I am informed.
Lunch Money: You can pay for lunch in advance for the whole year if you would like. If a check is sent in, please make sure you indicate on the memo line your child’s name and what the check is for. This helps us to keep good records and prevent lost money. If you send in cash, please label an envelope as follows:
Student’s Name
Miss Siebert
What the Money is For (Lunch $, Field Trip $, etc...)
Take Home Reading: In about 6 to 8 weeks, your child will be bringing home a packet for our “Take Home Reading Program.” The instructions will be enclosed in the packet. Research says beginning readers need to read books that are on their own reading level so they will continue growing as a reader. This reading homework will need to be done 3 to 4 nights a week, and is imperative to helping push your child progress in their reading abilities. It requires 10-15 minutes of assistance with an adult (parent, guardian, older siblings, grandparents, etc.) You will get more information about this later, along with tips and tricks for reading with your child at home.
Birthdays: You may send in a simple class snack to celebrate your child’s birthday. I recommend cookies or rice crispy treats. Please try to avoid cupcakes, as they create a difficult mess, and certain food allergies prevent all students from participating. All snacks must be store bought. Homemade treats cannot be passed out at school. Invitations to parties can only be passed out in school if the whole class is invited (or all girls if it is a girl party or all boys for a boy party). Children this age are very sensitive to being left out. Please honor this, as I would hate to disappoint your child on his/her special day.
